9/10 for Fauchon, the hotel

The Fauchon house has reigned for decades (since 1886), on the taste buds of the French and on the Place de la Madeleine, associating its delicatessen with the best of France.

Suffice to say that his first hotel, opened just two years ago, a stone's throw from the boutique on the corner of Boulevard Malesherbes, was expected.

After the youthful effervescence of the first months, the hotel has settled down permanently in the landscape of Parisian hospitality.

Opposite the entrance and its monumental double door, the reception impresses with its volume and a clever decor, where geometric shapes intertwine on gold walls of the most beautiful effect.

As soon as you walk through the door, you are immediately directed to a delightful, velvety library boudoir.

A house cocktail in hand (offered) and we are joined by a smiling hostess armed with a tablet.

The check-in formalities are sober, warm, unostentatious and quite efficient.

After all, you're always better off than standing behind a counter.

10/10 The situation

Place de la Madeleine boulevard Malesherbes, a stone's throw from Concorde, epicenter of tourist Paris, it is one of the best locations in the capital.

8/10 The decor

We owe it to the Paluel Marmont workshop, which knew how to play with the house's color codes.

Nothing shattering, but it's pretty.

The carpet in the corridors, bandaged in black and fuchsia (

the colors of the delicatessen, Editor's note

), the elevator with glass walls woven with gold thread, are rather festive.

On the ground floor, we enjoyed the very Parisian bar, revisited Second Empire, in full harmony with the Haussmannian architecture of the building.

A few books and decorative objects fill the nooks and crannies of this somewhat pompously called “library” space.

Likewise, the small lounge area in the lobby is very successful with its velvet bench, a little Art Deco.

In the evening, the perfect mastery of lighting in the common areas and in particular in the bar, adds to the sweetness of life in this setting.

A delicious harmony that tears you away from the fury of living in Paris and offers an almost provincial tranquility.

One downside: what is this female mannequin doing in fishnet stockings, wickedly colored (it does not add anything), a work of the artist Josepha which marks the entry into the restoration part?

We don't want to see her here at all.

    10/10 The bedrooms

We enter the most successful part of the hotel.

The 37 rooms and 17 suites look out over Paris.

Not one of them offers a discount view.

It's rare enough to be said.

In front of us, the church of La Madeleine in the power of its architecture and the prospect of boulevard Malesherbes… Light, space, fluidity… This is Paris!

Ours n ° 901 is rather large, qualified as a junior suite.

Black parquet at the tip of Hungary, white walls and curtains, small pink armchairs….

Everything is very feminine ... In one corner, the gourmet bar, a rock'n'roll cabinet filled with Fauchon products (free), was specially designed.

But beyond any aesthetic consideration, what characterizes the room is the quality of its equipment.

    Everything is practical and comfortable.

    Well done.

Like the wardrobe in the entrance which is lit from the inside when you open it.

A tablet allows you to bring your own Netflix account to the screen in two clicks.

A clever removable mirror, discreetly hung in a corner of the room, allows optimal use.

And the Dyson hair dryer in its pink leather box is a great find.

Thanks to a perfect double glazing we have the film of the Parisian night ... but without the sound.

    8/10 At the table

For lunch the restaurant has a terrace while in the evening it is easier to fold inside, in a refreshing and cheerful decor.

The slightly “bistronomic” cuisine offered by chef Frédéric Claudel is that of a chic bistro, with beautiful flavors such as this Atlantic crab meat in dill cannelloni and granny smith.

The origin of the products is sought after, black Gascon pork from Patrick Duler, or duck foie gras from Jean Sarthe's farm.

    Two such musts.

A must: the famous Fauchon pie which has ignited generations of palates including that of General de Gaulle….

    (Around 50 €).

    9/10 Services and equipment

The very feminine spa housed in the basement has two treatment cabins entrusted to the Carita house.

A hammam in the colors of the Fauchon house is freely accessible, but can also be privatized on certain time slots.

The fitness room is well equipped.

    8/10 The value for money

Beautiful rooms with a view of the monumental Paris from the Place de la Madeleine, makes the Fauchon Hotel a very nice address with room rates ranging from € 400 to € 550, in the upper average for this category.

    Fauchon, the hotel, 4 boulevard Malesherbes, 75008 Paris. Phone: 01 87 86 28 00.
