Delta will make landfall in the next few hours
Hurricane Delta will make landfall on the southwest coast of Louisiana in the next few hours, according to the National Hurricane Center.
"The north eye wall is moving towards the coast now," said CNN meteorologist Brandon Miller.
"The north eye wall will probably contain some of the heaviest rainfall and strongest winds."
Hurricane conditions and a life-threatening storm surge are expected in the landfall area.
A hurricane is considered to make landfall when the center of the storm crosses the coast.

Water levels rise off Louisiana coast due to Delta storm surge
By Brandon Miller
Water levels along the Louisiana coast rise as Hurricane Delta approaches and increases its storm surge.
Storm surge is already above 1.8 meters at a water level gauge at Freshwater Canal Locks, located in southern Vermilion Parish, nearly 50 miles south of Abbeville, Louisiana.
This is causing a flood of seawater almost 1.5 meters above ground level, according to data from the Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA, for its acronym in English).
What is considered a "major flood" for this location.
Water levels should continue to rise throughout the afternoon and evening as Delta still has several hours to make landfall and high tide will arrive at midnight local time.
