With the grandchildren's trick, a senior citizen from Dachau was supposed to cost thousands of euros.

But the fraudsters did the bill without the bank employees.

  • With the grandchildren's trick, a crook wanted to bring thousands of euros to a senior citizen from Dachau.

  • The bank employees immediately noticed that something was wrong.

  • The police praised the employees' commitment.

Dachau

- The scam is lousy and unfortunately just as successful: the

grandchildren fraud

.

Time and again, crooks succeed in taking

senior citizens

out of their

money

.

The attempted

fraudsters

on Monday at a

84-year-olds

in Dachau.

This was announced by the Upper Bavaria North Police Headquarters yesterday.

Anneliese Holzner, a consultant in the

Volksbank branch

on Münchner Strasse, knows her

regular customers

well, she notices when they are having a bad day or when they suddenly

withdraw

amounts

that they would otherwise not withdraw.

Last Monday, an 84-year-old regular customer came to Holzner's branch and wanted

6,000 euros

.

Since she had been telling Holzner for a long time that

craftsmen

were coming to her

soon

, the amount was okay.

But what happened

next

was anything but usual: In the afternoon the old lady came back to the branch and wanted to:

withdraw 50,000 euros

.

Of course that doesn't work.

Dachau: Senior woman wants to withdraw 50,000 euros - employees suspect "grandchildren's trick"

Yes, the man who

wanted the old lady's

money

did not give up.

He went with her to the

main office of

the

Volksbank

in the

old town

of

Dachau

, where he kept talking to her as

“Grandma”

, looking for “very conspicuous closeness to her, seemed very tough”, as

bank employee

Nina-Marie Dorfner describes.

Her colleague and trainee Noel Köllner is at the

counter

at the moment

when the lady tries to

withdraw

20,000 euros

and get a

power of attorney

for the fraudster.

Köllner has the intuitive feeling that something is wrong, notices from a gesture: The old lady feels uncomfortable.

Köllner and Dorfner talk to their colleague Franz Schubert, who is the first to find out more about

the old lady

's regular branch

.

Together with

Anneliese Holzner

, everyone comes to the conclusion: Something is wrong here.

There has never been a

grandson

with the 84-year-old in the

bank

, she has never wanted such

amounts

, and has never wanted to

issue

a

power of attorney

to

anyone

.

“On the contrary,” emphasizes Holzner, who

knows

her

customer

well.

Bank employees protect customers from fraud - but unfortunately the perpetrator can escape

So the three employees in the

main office

tried to

briefly separate the old lady from the man under a pretext.

“That was as good as impossible,” said Schubert.

“The man just clung to her.” When the employees succeeded, trainee Noel Köllner asked the old lady if she even knew the man - the 84-year-old emphasized:

No!

The

employees did not pay out the money

under a

pretext

, they kept their nerves all the time and “created an atmosphere that does not

cause

any

disturbance

”.

When the scammer left the bank with the woman, they called the police.

Unfortunately, the story only has a half-perfect happy ending: thanks to the

bank employees

, the old lady still has her

money

, but the

fraudster was

able to escape.

The Fürstenfeldbruck criminal police took over the further investigations, the officials emphasize: It is not uncommon for the perpetrators to deprive senior citizens of their entire

assets

with this type of fraud

and thus bring them into

existential emergencies

.

The police praised the

commitment of

the attentive Dachau bank employees: "It is thanks to the professional reaction of attentive bank employees that there was no payment of large

amounts of cash

in the first place!" Anneliese Holzner emphasizes: "Even if we are a big company, we know our customers very well - and work together to

protect them.
