The firefighting system in Latakia Governorate continues its great and double efforts to control the huge fires that have erupted since midnight last night in the governorate's countryside, where firefighting teams, forestry vehicles and civil defense forces are working with the help of helicopters of the Syrian Arab Army to control and extinguish them.
The Director of Lattakia Agriculture, Engineer Munther Khair Bey, said in a statement to SANA's correspondent that the directorate’s firefighting crews, in cooperation with the Fire Brigade and Civil Defense, managed to put out 10 fires out of 21 fires, and the firefighting teams are still dealing with huge fires in the Baloran forests and the Jandal fort in Qardaha, Qameen, Quwaqa, Kalmakho, Banjaro and Khadlo At the edge.
He pointed out that the speed of the dry eastern winds, which reached about 70 km per hour, especially in Balloran, contributed to the spread of the fire and the difficulty of controlling it, in addition to the rugged mountainous terrain, stressing that all the 28 teams of workers equipped with manual equipment affiliated to the directorate are helping in the process of extinguishing the fires.
In turn, Muhannad Jaafar, commander of the Lattakia fire brigade, confirmed that the central fire brigade and the firefighting units of Jableh, al-Qardaha, al-Hafah, fire stations in Harf al-Musaytara, al-Fakhoora and al-Daliyah, and the firefighting system of agriculture and the Haraj and Civil Defense Authority are working as one team to put out fires in the Boudi area in the countryside of Jableh and Jabal al-Areen in the countryside of al-Qardaha, and the fire in the olive trees in Datour In the outskirts of Latakia.
Several fires occurred in the woodland and agricultural lands in the countryside of Latakia Governorate, which broke out at night and devoured hundreds of acres of citrus and olive trees, in addition to large areas of natural embarrassment.
