Russian Presidents Vladimir Putin and Iranian Hassan Rouhani stressed the danger of some countries transferring terrorists to the Nagorno Karabakh region, which is disputed between Armenia and Azerbaijan, for the security of the entire region.

The Kremlin press office said in a statement today that Putin and Rouhani discussed in a phone call that took place today between them the latest developments regarding the nuclear agreement between Iran and the international community and a number of global issues and developments.

The statement indicated that Putin assured Rouhani of Moscow's understanding of Tehran's concern about the crisis between Armenia and Azerbaijan and stressed the importance of resolving the conflict through negotiation, expressing his hope that the ceasefire between the two sides would pave the way for the start of dialogue and negotiations.

Putin considered that the interference of a third country in the conflict in Karabakh and the transfer of terrorists there is dangerous to the security of the region.

Regarding the nuclear agreement, Putin stressed that Moscow's position on illegal sanctions against Tehran is clear and transparent and is based on its complete rejection.

For his part, Rouhani stressed that the war is not a solution to the conflict in Nagorny Karabakh and stressed the importance of dialogue to resolve the crisis, expressing his concern about the transfer of terrorists to the region and the transformation of the conflict there into a regional war, which poses a threat to Iran, Russia and the entire region.

Rouhani praised Russia's efforts to reach a ceasefire between Azerbaijan and Armenia and start talks between the two countries.

During the call, the urgent issues related to bilateral cooperation between the two sides in the commercial and economic field were discussed, with special attention to the file of combating the spread of the emerging corona virus, especially the opportunities for cooperation regarding the Russian anti-epidemic Sputnik vaccine.
