“
As local elected representatives, we know where to invest as close as possible to citizens to translate the transitional measures into concrete actions.
But we can't do it alone.
Europe must be at our side in this battle
”, write these signatories of a column published by the Journal du Dimanche, among which the PS mayors of Paris and Nantes, the environmental mayors of Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Lyon, Poitiers, Besançon and Grenoble, but also the right-wing mayors of Reims, Saint-Etienne or Angers.
The European Union, affirm these city councilors, “
must support and accompany our actions in the territories.
The hundreds of billions of euros of the European recovery plan must be an opportunity to accelerate the ecological transition, to finance the European Green Deal and to raise our continent's climate ambition
”.
"
The European leaders must adopt as quickly as possible a climate objective
equal
to the climate crisis
", claim in particular the signatories, who join the objective, supported by the European Parliament, of reducing gas emissions by 60% greenhouse effect by 2030.
With regard to national recovery plans and the European plan, they also demand, "
not one euro should be wasted on projects that are harmful to the environment or that would create a risk for citizens
".
