In the jarring silence of the Knesset, it is difficult to see a combination that will prevent elections

In the days of extreme discourse, it was possible to welcome the lowering of the tone at the opening ceremony of the winter conference, but the silence that prevailed in the plenum symbolizes its cessation.

Despite the agreement of most Knesset members that the government is not functioning, there is no other politically right-wing government on the right or left that will prevent Netanyahu from dispersing it if he only wants to.

It was the most relaxed opening conference the Knesset has known in recent years.

No shouting.

No attacks.

Barely intermediate readings.

All the speakers - Knesset Speaker Yariv Levin, President Reuven Rivlin, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Opposition Leader Yair Lapid - who know how to inflame the plenum when necessary, avoided bites and provocative triggers; On the verge of drowsiness even to the few charged statements that came out of their mouths.

Even when Rivlin preached about "losing compass" and called to pass a budget and appoint a commissioner Now, when Netanyahu accused the populist government and beyond the failures of quarantine second, even when the torch called for one person to step down to allow the state to recover sources.

On the face, on the days of Shouts and shouts in the streets and on the nets, the leadership that lowers the tone and conducts a public and responsible discourse is to be welcomed, but in the silence that prevailed in the plenum there was also something chilling; A minute after the ceremonial part of the opening of the winter conference ended, the opposition's no-confidence motions against Netanyahu were discussed, and the volume rose again.

As expected, all four proposals were rejected.

Bish Atid and Meretz have decided to take advantage of the growing crisis between the Likud and Blue and White to re-flood the initiative to form an alternative government in this Knesset, but even on one version of the opposition's distrust fails to agree.

Bish Atid boasted that Naftali Bennett and Avigdor Lieberman voted in favor of the proposal that put Lapid as an alternative candidate for prime minister, but kept the absence of members of the joint list from the plenum modest.

In the meantime, the Likud did not miss the opportunity to label Bennett as the one who decided to retire from the right-wing bloc in favor of an alliance with Lapid and Ayman Odeh, which forced the right to issue a hysterical statement clarifying that it was only a symbolic event.

Not to mention blue and white, which is not yet in business.

Ganz said yesterday that Lapid's initiative was a "PR exercise" that had no political feasibility. The after party of the constructive distrust proved that there may be justice in his words.

In the cool silence that sat in the plenum, the glacier between the prime minister and the replacement prime minister stood out. Netanyahu spoke twice: both at the Likud faction meeting and in the plenum, and on none of the occasions did he bother to address the budget crisis or the escalating confrontation in the government that threatens to lead to elections. Nor to Gila Gamliel and the chain of other executives who tweeted about the guidelines.

Opened with a weak response.

Even the Twitter attacks on the anarchist Balfourists he left at home.

In the optimistic and reconciled world that Netanyahu presented in the Knesset, Israel is on its way to defeating the corona, the Otto vaccine is here, and the closure is a victory in general.

"You are not telling the truth. A closure is a picture of failure," Naftali Bennett tried to blow up the balloon a few hours later.

Netanyahu was not in the area to hear.

And maybe it was all the quiet before the storm of the coming weeks.

The budget crisis puts the deadline on the head of the Netanyahu-Ganz government by the end of December, and both sides are already high on the tree in belligerent statements.

Blue and White demand that the 2021 budget debates begin immediately and bring it to the Knesset for approval by the end of December, Netanyahu and Katz nonchalantly ignore it, and continue with their schedules, which roll the budget approval to March.

In the middle, the main political question is what will happen to the exit point that will allow Netanyahu to go to the polls without realizing the rotation agreement.

Ganz today announced the "end of the era of restraint" and threatened "that all options are on the table", but a moment later announced that he would not support Lapid's initiative, which revealed that he currently has no real threat to wave other than elections.

And it is not clear how much this deters Netanyahu in the first place.

Two walls in the face of any opposition threat

Today, for the first time since the blue-and-white dissolution, Ganz has publicly addressed his former partners Lapid and Ya'alon and called on them to return to cooperating in the defense of democracy and the rule of law.

A few hours later, he met in his office one-on-one with Ya'alon and Nissenkorn visited Lapid's office.

Since the formation of the government, relations between the former cockpit members have been cold and chilly.

Not sure the sulha is on the way, but for now, the meetings are helping Gantz build a credible threat, if only ostensibly, and provide the militant camp that has been set up in blue and white pushing him to explore more "governmental alternatives," he said.

Lapid and Ya'alon do not intend to allow the initiative to form an alternative government to oust Netanyahu in one vote, Lieberman is pushing to pass a bill that would prevent an MK with an indictment from running for prime minister. These are the options on the table. Derech Eretz of Hauser and Handel, who has already announced in advance that they will not cooperate with attempts to change the government, and Bennett's right, who is only fleeing conflicts with the Likud and will certainly not be in a hurry to support any move that ends Netanyahu's rule.

So the silence that prevailed in the Knesset yesterday may to some extent symbolize its failure.

There is widespread agreement by most Knesset members that the government is failing to function, but there is no other combination on the benches, right or left, to prevent a fourth election: Netanyahu has no right-wing government because of Bennett, and Lapid has no alternate government because of Bennett, Smutrich, Hauser and Handel.

In the last decade, there has been much talk about the weakening of the legislature, of it becoming an obedient arm of the government and the absolute dependence on the discipline of a coalition and opposition that sterilizes freedom of vote.

At the same time, the political extremism between the right and the left and the sincere camp and only not Bibi established blocs and alliances that do not allow the Knesset to fulfill its central mission.

The creators have turned around: instead of the government serving the Knesset trust, the Knesset serves the government trust, and disperses to the elections every time its leader decides to do so.

This time, too, it seems, she may flow there in a deafening silence.
