Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed the necessity of adhering to the ceasefire agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, stressing that it is a mistake to delay the resumption of the negotiation process on the Karabakh region.
Lavrov said during a press conference with his Armenian counterpart Zograb Mnatsakyanian today that controlling the ceasefire is an important and priority issue and must be adhered to for humanitarian reasons, the release of detainees and the renewal of the political process with the participation of the co-chairs of the Minsk Group without any preliminary conditions.
Last Saturday, Lavrov announced that a ceasefire agreement had been reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan for humanitarian purposes to exchange prisoners of war and other detainees and dead bodies through the International Committee of the Red Cross, in response to the call of Russian President Vladimir Putin and in accordance with his agreements with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan .
In turn, the Foreign Minister of Armenia made it clear that his country adheres to all the terms that have been agreed upon, but there is a lack of commitment by Azerbaijan in the ceasefire, reiterating that the Turkish regime transfers mercenaries and terrorists from Syria and Libya to help the Azeri forces, which leads to the expansion of the terrorist zone in the region.
Manatsakyanian called on Azerbaijan to stop all provocations and actions to solve and settle the Karabakh crisis, stressing that guarantees must be made to stop these actions, clear the territories of terrorists, and stop the use of force against civilians.
The situation in the Nagorno Karabakh region witnessed a sudden military escalation about two weeks ago, while the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides exchanged accusations about the reasons for this escalation, while reports indicated that the Turkish regime transferred a number of its mercenaries from northern Syria to participate in the ongoing fighting in the region.
