The European Union today condemned the Turkish regime’s decision to send an exploration ship to Greek territorial waters, which created a new escalation in the eastern Mediterranean, indicating that it will discuss the implications of this escalation on next Thursday and Friday at the European summit scheduled in Brussels.

AFP quoted EU foreign policy commissioner Josep Borrell as saying during his meeting with EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg that the recent decisions taken by Ankara are regrettable and will lead to new tension instead of reducing the escalation that we demanded during the recent European summit.

In turn, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, warned that: “If Ankara continues its illegal activities, we will use the means available to us,” noting that “economic sanctions have been prepared and are ready for immediate implementation.”

Earlier today, the Greek Foreign Ministry condemned the Turkish regime’s decision to send an exploration vessel to the eastern Mediterranean, stressing that it “poses a direct threat to regional security and peace.”

The Turkish regime continues its provocations against neighboring countries in an effort to implement its expansion plans and ambitions.
