President Xi Jinping will attend the celebration meeting for the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone on Wednesday (14th). Chief Executive Carrie Lam said today (12th) that he was arranged to go to Beijing later this month to discuss the policy of support from the central government. Later, a new "Policy Address" was originally scheduled to be published in the Legislative Council on Wednesday, seeking to be published before the end of November.
The President of the Legislative Council, Mr Leung Junyan, said that he received a notice from Carrie Lam at 9:30 this morning that the presentation of the "policy address" would be postponed.
He said he respected the relevant decision and emphasized that it did not cause much inconvenience to the Legislative Council.
He also pointed out that the Legislative Council meeting will be held as usual on Wednesday to deal with the four unfinished bills in the previous legislative year.
When meeting reporters, Liang Junyan said that it is still unknown when the "policy address" will be postponed until its publication, but he hopes that Carrie Lam can inform the Legislative Council when it will be read out as soon as possible.
However, he emphasized that he understands that the Chief Executive needs to discuss relevant policies with Beijing before making a decision.
Liang Junyan also pointed out that he was invited to attend the celebration meeting for the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, but because he wanted to stay in Hong Kong to handle the affairs of the Legislative Council, he had no time to attend.
