The U.S. Senate will begin hearings today (Monday) on the appointment of Judge Amy Connie Barrett to the Supreme Court, while attention has been given in recent days to her membership in a Catholic organization where she reportedly held the title of "slave."

Barrett, 48, is set to replace Ruth Baider Ginsburg, a Liberal Supreme Court justice who died last month of cancer at the age of 86. The appointment of the Conservative judge, promoted by Republican President Donald Trump even before the Nov. 3 election, will increase the Conservative majority to six against three. Liberals.

Republicans have a majority in the Senate, and enough senators have made it clear they will support her appointment despite Democrats and presidential candidate Joe Biden calling for a wait for the election results.

Barrett is widely supported by devout Christians, who share her opposition to abortion and same-sex marriage.

She is the mother of seven children, including two adopted children and one with Down Syndrome, and previously told a group of students that "your legal career is a means to an end, and the end is to build the kingdom of God."

She was a member of the "community of praise" Catholic community, which according to former friends and outside observers holds ultra-conservative positions towards women.

The title "slave" was used to describe senior women in the community, but the term has since changed to "leader."

However, the judge, known for her sharpened legal arguments, insists that she can separate her belief from her judgment.

"The courts are not supposed to solve any problem or correct any mistake in our public life," she is expected to say at the opening of the hearing, according to a draft of her statement.

"Government policy and value judgments should be made by the political branches elected by the citizens and accountable to them. The public should not expect the courts to do this, and the courts should not do that."

Trump has chosen Conservative Judge Amy Connie Barrett as the top candidate

Republicans and her supporters claim she has fallen victim to the general hostility of the left in relation to religion.

"We hope she gets a fair hearing," Vice President Mick Pence said during last week's confrontation with Joe Biden's deputy candidate, Sen. Kamala Harris.

"And we especially hope we do not see the kind of attacks on her Christian faith as we have seen in the past."

However, Harris, the member of the legal committee that will hold Barrett's hearing, is back.

"Me and Joe Biden people believe," she asserts.

"And it is an insult to claim that we will disqualify someone because of his faith."

Democrats warn it will allow the disqualification of Obama-Kerr, the former president's health care reform, at the height of the corona plague.

However, they do not have many tools to stop her hearing.

Republicans hold 53 of the 100 seats in the Senate, and are determined to continue advancing its candidacy, despite opposition from two Republican senators.

Only the Corona itself could thwart the move, after three Republican senators contracted the virus and went into isolation.

Two of them - Mike Lee and Tom Tilis - are members of the Judiciary Committee.

While in hearings they can attend remotely, when voting for her candidacy they must be present in the courtroom, thus endangering other senators.

Ron Johnson, the third Republican senator to be positively diagnosed with the virus, said he would wear a "space suit" if required to participate in a vote expected by the end of the month.
