Senior officials in the Ministry of Energy said in a briefing to reporters today (Tuesday) that if Lebanese representatives reach negotiations with Israel on the maritime border with a positive and pragmatic approach, it will be possible to move forward quickly and reach an agreement within weeks or months.
This, in preparation for the talks that will take place tomorrow between the parties.
"We are approaching negotiations in a pragmatic and practical approach," senior Ministry of Energy officials said in a briefing to reporters.
"Our goal is to resolve the dispute over the economic watershed between the two countries. It is not a peace process. It is not normalization. It is a defined goal of resolving a minor technical and economic dispute that prevents the development of gas and oil resources in the eastern Mediterranean."

Senior officials in the Ministry of Energy stressed that the dispute between the parties is not large and the area of dispute comes in the longest sections of the economic water line to 15 kilometers, and in the shortest sections to a few kilometers.
"If the other side wants to reach negotiations to defeat the Zionist enemy, there will be no progress and the Lebanese will remain in the situation they are now in without the ability to develop their gas reserves," the officials said.
"But if the other side comes with a pragmatic approach, they will encounter a pragmatic approach from the Israeli side. And we hope we can move forward within weeks or months. It is better than continuing to get stuck for another ten years."
