Since the municipality of Peiting has been storing excavated material on a large asphalt area in the former gravel pit, the quiet on Untereggstrasse has been over.

Now the community is responding to the protest from residents.

A noise protection report should clarify what the noise pollution is like.

Peiting - At the beginning of August, the protest was formed in Untereggstrasse.

Around 20 residents complained about what had been going on on their doorstep for a good week.

Truck after truck rattled down the street to unload the loaded excavated material from the various construction sites in the village on the new municipal storage area in the former gravel pit (we reported).

The residents were angry about the noise and the possible health risks and accused the community of not having given them sufficient information.

Her tenor: "30s zone, residential area and heavy goods vehicle: they don't go together."

In the town hall, the loud criticism has obviously not gone unheard.

Mayor Peter Ostenrieder announced in a press release on Monday that the points complained about by residents had been clarified over the past few weeks.

The first consequence: According to the town hall chief, the delivery of new material has been suspended since the beginning of October.

What has already been stored remains on the area and, if necessary - after the sampling has been carried out - is driven off for further processing.

The municipality has commissioned noise protection reports

Whether and how operations are resumed depends on the result of a noise protection report commissioned by the municipality.

It is intended to provide information about the noise pollution from the interim storage facility, taking into account the existing pollution from the neighboring gravel pit operation and the existing road traffic on Untereggstrasse.

"In this way it can be objectively clarified whether an immission control-relevant noise issue is actually occurring here," said Ostenrieder.

So far, the administration had referred to existing studies that had been carried out as part of the development plan procedure for the two football fields.

Noise protection wall with roof planned

Ostreiter's statement is also quite surprising, according to which a “soundproofing wall facing Untereggstrasse, which at the same time is to be partially provided with a roof”, had already been planned in advance of the measure.

There had been no talk of that in the summer.

“We would of course then adjust these according to the possible requirements from the report so as not to burden the residents disproportionately.” At the same time, the municipality is also trying to find suitable alternative intermediate storage areas.

The mayor makes this clear again, but there is no way around storage.

The Peiting market is "obliged to temporarily store appropriate excavated material from municipal building measures for sampling in pre-sorted heaps, to take samples and then to use it properly or to have it disposed of".

A possible alternative would be to store the excavated material near the construction site, but this would, as a rule, significantly hinder and delay the construction work and also result in a possible disruption to the affected residents, says Ostenrieder.

According to the municipality, there are no health risks from the stored material

And what about possible health hazards from the contaminated material, which the residents fear?

Here the mayor refers to a request from the municipality to the technical environmental protection department in the district office, who said no.

The wastewater from the square resulting from precipitation would also be correctly drained via the municipal sewer system and fed to the sewage treatment plant.

Ostenrieder also rejects the criticism of the surface sealing.

The fortification of the site should have been done one way or another because of the burdened subsoil.

Incidentally, the municipality does not see a generally too high traffic load.

After all, Untereggstrasse is a normal local road and not a traffic-calmed area.

However, Ostenrieder admits that the current speed limit of 30 km / h is often not adhered to.

"We hope that the proposed marking of all right-before-left situations on Untereggstrasse will have a strong impact in the coming weeks," said the mayor.

"Traffic monitoring will also be expanded accordingly."
