After the federal and state negotiations on new measures in the corona crisis, Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) warned against a new lockdown.
"We are actually much closer to the second lockdown than we want to admit," he said at a press conference after the meeting between Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the prime ministers of the federal states.
It was "maybe no longer five to twelve, but the stroke of twelve" to prevent this, said Söder.
Otherwise the economy and society are threatened with "major damage".
Merkel also warned against underestimating the corona virus.
She appealed to the population to support the measures.
"Personally, I simply believe that we have the means to counter the virus and deal with it."
It is a huge challenge that could have a lot of implications for health, for the economy and also for young people, said Merkel.

At the same time she said there was still a lot of work to be done.
