A contested election could cost the US its AAA credit rating

A difficult election in the United States could cause damage that goes beyond belief in democracy.

It could also cost the country its perfect credit rating.

The rating agency Fitch Ratings wrote in a report that it will closely monitor the US presidential election for "any deviation" in the history of orderly transfers of power in the country.

This is how the development of vaccines against covid-19 in phase 3 goes

At least 29 coronavirus vaccines are currently in testing in multiple human trials running concurrently around the world.

Among these, six vaccines are being tested in phase 3 trials. There are three from China, two developed by state-owned Sinopharm and one from private Chinese company Sinovac Biotech.

One in the UK, produced in collaboration between the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca.

And two from the United States, one from the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, in addition to the Moderna candidate.

Human Rights Watch denounces abuses against Venezuelan returnees

In Venezuela, the government of the questioned President Nicolás Maduro set up dozens of centers for returning Venezuelans to comply with quarantine, before continuing on their way to their destinations and thus preventing the spread of the virus, if they arrived infected.

However, according to a new report by Human Rights Watch and Johns Hopkins University, in many of these spaces there is “abusive treatment” against returnees.

The report highlights that food and medicine are scarce in these centers, and that returnees are forced to comply with quarantine.

In addition, HRW points out that the protests of these Venezuelans were silenced under threat of arrest.

Mexico, one step closer to obtaining vaccines against covid-19

The Government of Mexico has signed pre-purchase agreements with three pharmaceutical companies that are currently in phase 3 of the development of a possible vaccine against covid-19.

These are AstraZeneca based in the United Kingdom, CanSinoBio, in China and Pfizer, in the United States.

The Government estimates that, with the various strategies deployed, it would be possible to obtain vaccines that would benefit between 107 and 116 million Mexicans.

The UN warns that the world runs the risk of being an "uninhabitable hell"

There has been a "staggering" increase in natural disasters in the past 20 years, and the climate crisis is to blame, United Nations experts say.

The agency's researchers pointed to the failure of political and business leaders to take meaningful action to mitigate the impact of climate change.

And thus prevent the planet from becoming "an uninhabitable hell for millions of people."
