Al-Ain and Nimrah Al-Harajian nurseries in Sweida governorate provide thousands of various forest plantations to citizens at reduced prices compared to private nurseries, in addition to securing the needs of artificial afforestation sites, places of worship and schools, free of charge.

According to the head of the Forestry Department in the As-Suwayda Agriculture Directorate, Eng. Anas Abu Fakhr, the nurseries are relying on a great role to increase planting production, which will positively affect the expansion of green areas and the re-cultivation of forested trees that have been cut and burned during the past years.

According to the head of the forestry department, the Al-Ain nursery has an area of ​​40 dunums and a number of 25 dunums, and in them are often cultivated varied cypress, fruity pine, protein, oak, sumac, bitter almond, bitter almond, tannins, bird tongue, eucalyptus, azdrecht, logstrom, taffeta, robina, mice and others.

The two nurseries, as Abu Fakhr mentions, depend for irrigation on a sprinkler irrigation network distributed over the fields, and the number of plantings produced in them annually ranges between 100 and 500 thousand forest plantations that secure the province's need for artificial afforestation and support afforestation campaigns carried out by the local community, as well as for universities, schools, hospitals, temples, cemeteries and various official bodies and units. Administrative in addition to that which is sold to the private sector.

Abu Fakhr explained that the Namira nursery was re-established in 2018 after a 10-year hiatus, with the production of 30,000 seedlings, leading to a production plan for the current season of 100,000 implants of different types.

The Directorate of Agriculture, as indicated by Abu Fakhr, is working to increase the production plan in the nurseries during the next stage in proportion to the needs of the various sectors of planting in parallel with the gradual work to invest the rest of the unexploited space in the Namira nursery, indicating that two dunams have been prepared uninvested in the Al Ain nursery that accommodate about 100 A thousand implants.

Abu Fakhr indicated that the Agriculture Directorate, through the Al Ain Center and the Namira nursery, for the current season, has produced 462,000 various forest plantings to implement the artificial afforestation plans and the needs of the public and private sectors.

Abu Fakhr pointed out that the nurseries provide permanent job opportunities in addition to seasonal job opportunities ranging between 50 and 60 job opportunities, stressing the importance of work to secure permanent employment for them in the required manner, since working in them requires accumulated experience.

Abu Fakhr indicated that the work requirements required for the production process of the nursery seedlings from soil, seeds and others are provided based on the investment funds allocated to the Forestry Department.

The Directorate of Agriculture in Swaida distributed and sold last season about 154 thousand forest plantations to be planted in many locations in the governorate, while the area of ​​forests in the governorate is about 12,055 hectares distributed by 8,055 hectares in state property and 4,000 hectares of private forests.
