The person concerned will be tried for "

violence against persons with public authority

" on Tuesday during a delayed appearance, the prosecutor of the Republic of Montbéliard, Ariane Combarel, told AFP.

He is suspected of having targeted the police with mortars on Tuesday at 10 a.m., while the agents searched a garage in the district of Little Holland.

The individual disputes the facts.

He says that he did not participate in the attack and that he did not have a mortar in hand,

"added the magistrate, specifying that"

samples were taken from his hands to be able to determine whether he used or not a mortar

This new attack follows several episodes of urban violence in this sensitive district of the city of Doubs.

Police officers had been grazed last week and had spotted a garage where they thought they could find information relating to recent incidents.

Arrived on the scene Tuesday morning and while waiting for a locksmith to open the building, the police were attacked by a group of half a dozen people.

They came under mortar fire, shooting 10 meters away, near a school and a market.

The assault did not cause any injuries.

The suspect was arrested shortly after.

An investigation entrusted to the Montbéliard police station is underway to try to identify the other suspects.

The police found a handgun, drugs and a stolen motorcycle in the garage.

Following this violence, the prefect of Doubs had issued an order to prohibit "

the transport, sale, transfer and use of fireworks

" until October 28 included, on the territory of the municipality of Montbéliard.
