Russia has confirmed its intention to respond to the sanctions imposed by the European Union on Russian officials under the pretext of the alleged poisoning of Russian dissident Alexei Navalny.
Sputnik news agency quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova as saying today in a press briefing that these sanctions will not remain without appropriate responses, adding: Russia calls on the European Union once again to return to the international legal channel and take a decision in favor of a stable interaction instead of exacerbating the situation.
And Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed earlier today that the new sanctions imposed by the European Union against Russian officials under the pretext of the Navalny case constitute a deliberate hostile step.
The European Union imposed sanctions against individuals and a Russian scientific establishment for allegedly being linked to the poisoning of the dissident Navalny.
