A proud six million euros is the total for the general refurbishment of the Peitinger ice rink, with which the administration took the Peitinger council by surprise on Tuesday evening.

Nevertheless, the committee unanimously gave the green light for the expensive project.

Speed is of the essence because of funding.

Peiting

- The fact that the ice rink is no longer in the best shape should hardly have surprised a local council on Tuesday.

After all, the ice rink is almost 50 years old, and the wall and roof construction, which was subsequently built in 1988, is also of an advanced age.

“We have known for years that the community has to deal with a number of issues,” recalled Mayor Peter Ostenrieder.

The councils heard for the first time about a general renovation of the ice rink, as the town hall chief had put on the agenda for the meeting.

After renovation, the playing field is 30 centimeters higher

The list of shortcomings that Ostenrieder put forward was long.

It started with the ice runway, which was built in 1972 without any insulation against the ground.

A new ice surface is to be built on it; the doubling is intended to reduce energy losses and avoid frost damage to the slope.

“The playing field is then 30 centimeters higher, but that doesn't bother.” At the same time, the ice-making machine is to be replaced.

There is also an urgent need for action with the roof.

That was covered with specially made clay plates, which were used at the time because of their low weight, said Ostenrieder.

Many of these special tiles would not have withstood the load from the snow masses in winter two years ago when the roof had to be stepped on to clear the building.

The roof skin was also affected by the damage and must urgently be replaced because of the lack of airtightness.

The problem: “The roof panels are no longer produced.” A sheet metal roof is now planned as an alternative.

"That would have the advantage that a full-area photovoltaic system could be implemented because of the lower weight," said the mayor.

The cabin wing and catering area are also being brought into shape

The list of defects continued inside the ice rink.

The cabin wing in the old grandstand has long since passed its prime, toilets, showers including ventilation systems need to be renovated just like the catering area, said Ostenrieder.

The glazed gable surfaces also no longer meet the energy requirements; they are to be replaced with highly insulating sandwich panels.

After all, it is also about reducing energy consumption.

In total, Ostenrieder put the total costs at around six million euros - without the PV system.

With that the mayor had arrived at the reason why the local council should now give the green light for the general renovation in a hurry.

There is a new federal funding program for sports facilities, through which a grant of up to 45 percent of the costs is possible, said Ostenrieder.

A prerequisite for the application is a fundamental decision of the municipal council for the general renovation.

In addition, the complete application would have to be submitted within the next 14 days.

"Of course, each measure is presented and decided again individually in the committee," he said.

In any case, the whole thing should not happen from now on, but gradually spread over the next five years.

Criticism comes from Andreas Barnsteiner (BVP)

The approach met with unanimous approval in the local council.

Thomas Elste (Greens) spoke of a "great thing for climate protection", after all, the ice rink is the largest energy consumer in municipal hands.

His parliamentary group colleague Günther Franz also found it important that sustainability was a priority and suggested that the experts from the Oberland energy transition should be consulted.

However, Andreas Barnsteiner got involved with climate protection.

The BVP council rumbled that it could not be possible to make ice cream as early as mid-July.

“Everyone is talking about global warming, so we can't pretend it's none of our business.” Of course, the mayor didn't want to leave that as it is.

"We have to leave the church in the village now. Normally, ice-making begins in mid-August at the earliest," he corrected Barnsteiner.

But what do you do if it doesn't work out with the funding, Michael Deibler (CSU) wanted to know.

"Then only the most necessary things will be feasible," said Ostenrieder, given the high amount of money.

But he is optimistic that one will get into the program.

The committee unanimously passed the decision in principle.

Since the municipality of Peiting has been storing excavated material on a large asphalt area in the former gravel pit, the quiet on Untereggstrasse has been over.

Now the community is responding to the protest from residents.

A noise protection report should clarify what the noise pollution is like.
