Geoglyphs older than the Nasca 1:33 lines discovered
(CNN Spanish) ––
The Ministry of Culture of Peru announced this Thursday the discovery of a new geoglyph.
It is a figure in the shape of a feline that had been drawn on one of the slopes of the Mirador Natural, in the Pampa de Nasca.
The archaeologists' discovery came amid remodeling work in the area.
They detailed that the figure was barely visible and that it was about to disappear due to its being on a rather steep slope.
Also due to the effects of natural erosion.

In the last week, cleaning and conservation tasks were carried out on the geoglyph, which has the figure of a feline with the body in profile and the head facing the front.
Most of his strokes are well defined by a line of width between 30 and 40 cm.
The figure, which is 37 meters long, would indicate by its stylistic features that it corresponds to the Late Paracas period.
It would even be prior to the famous figures of the Nasca Pampa, dating from 100 to 200 years prior to our era.
It was also reported that representations of animals of this type are frequent in the iconography of ceramics and textiles of the Paracas society.
The Nazca and Palpa Lines and Geoglyphs were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994.

They are zoomorphic and anthropomorphic figures and lines or fields swept over the surface of an extensive desert territory.
They express the religious world of the pre-Hispanic Paracas and Nasca societies, which are estimated to have been drawn for more than 1,500 years.
For its part, the Mirador Natural is a rocky hill that is located in a section of the Pampa de Nasca.
According to the Ministry of Culture, it receives that name because numerous straight lines of different width and length converge around it, which can be seen from the top of the hill.
