The community of Maisach wants to secure its drinking water supply.

A new deep well must be built for this.

It is currently expected to cost around one million euros.

Maisach - The current deep well is 37 years old.

The pump was replaced about ten years ago.

But nothing else has been renovated.

This is not even possible because the well would have to be taken off the grid for at least a week, as an expert in the local council explained.

And then it would have to be made sterile.

The deep well cannot be taken out of service because there is only one.

The water that it pumps from a depth of around 200 meters is mixed with the water from the three Maisach shallow wells.

The three shallow wells alone could not meet the community's water needs.

In general, there is no security of supply if the deep well or the shallow wells fail, warned the expert.

Deposits in the pipe?

According to experts, a deep well has a lifespan of 40 to - in exceptional cases - 60 years.

The fact that the Maisacher deep well is slowly waning is shown by the fact that it no longer pumps 45 liters per second as it originally did, but only 33. It cannot be determined why this is.

It is not even possible to drive through the camera during operation.

Only when the new deep well is pumping water can the old one be switched off and examined.

Deposits in the pipe are likely to slow down the flow rate.

That could lead to the drying up of the water supply.

When the old well has been examined, a decision has to be made: is it worth renovating?

Then Maisach would have additional security of supply.

If it is not worth it, it will be dismantled.

Then the municipal council has to consider whether to have another deep well built.

The construction of the new deep well will cost around 600,000 euros.

An additional 150,000 to 250,000 euros is added for the fountain house, plus 300 euros per meter of pipe.

But before that happens, a long process has to be followed.

An environmental impact assessment and a water law procedure are required.

As the expert said, it shouldn't be a problem to get the necessary permits.

The new well should be near the current one.

Overall, the water withdrawal should not be increased.

Around 750,000 cubic meters of water are currently pumped each year.

Up to one million cubic meters would be allowed.

In Maisach they also want to think about an emergency water network with neighboring communities - regardless of the new deep well.

But this is not so easy because there are different water associations.
