The measures taken in public transport, in particular the wearing of the compulsory mask, are effective in preventing the spread of the coronavirus, assured Tuesday, October 6 the Minister for Transport, Jean-Baptiste Djebbari.

An "
extremely strict health protocol
" has been put in place in public transport since the start of deconfinement on May 11, and "
it is solid
", explained Jean-Baptiste Djebbari on RMC.
The vehicles are notably cleaned several times a day with virucidal products and the wearing of a mask is compulsory, he stressed.
“
Public transport is not a particular place of contamination
,” insisted the minister.
"
The most important places of contamination are the closed places where people do not wear the mask,
" he added.

If the mask is “
very well worn
” in public transport according to him, more than 15,000 reports for non-wearing of the mask have been drawn up at the RATP, 8,000 at the SNCF since the deconfinement.

As for the images of crowds on the platforms regularly broadcast in the media, they relate to malfunctions,
" he said, recalling that attendance does not currently exceed 60 to 65% of normal while 100% of the usual service is assured.
Jean-Baptiste Djebbari all the same met on Tuesday morning the leaders of the main operators --RATP and SNCF, in particular - to redo "
a very precise point on the measures which are taken
", and in particular the positioning of the controls.

Globally, we have increased the cleaning staff by 30% (...), the budget has gone from 90 to 160 million euros,
" said RATP CEO Catherine Guillouard, after this meeting .

There may be from time to time, in connection with a technical incident (...), crowds,
”she explained.

We decided to set up a + task force + (rapid intervention brigade, editor's note) of 150 people, who will come, in the event of a problem, in less than an hour, to assist in trying to regulate the flow (of travelers ) on site,
”said the manager.
Attendance is currently 67% in the Paris metro and 68% in the RER compared to normal, she noted.
