(CNN Spain) -

The governor of Puerto Rico, Wanda Vázquez Garced, signed a decree this Friday that relaxes the commercial restrictions that apply in relation to the covid-19 pandemic and that sets in motion the reopening of the collective transportation system.

The new decree, which will be in force between October 17 and November 13, establishes the continuation of the curfew from 10 PM to 5:00 AM

The relaxation of restrictions allows an increase in the percentage of occupancy of commercial establishments and dining rooms of restaurants from 50% to 55% of their capacity.

In the case of cinemas, casinos, gyms, hotel pools and housing complexes, these may have a maximum of 30% of their capacity.

The decree orders the reestablishment, as of October 26, of the operations of the collective transport service of the Metropolitan Authority of Buses, Urban Train and the maritime transportation provided for tourists - only for the island municipality of Culebra.

Regarding the general elections of November 3, Vázquez Garced stressed that "each citizen must remember that it is everyone's responsibility to avoid contagion, particularly in the most important event that is coming, which is the day of the general elections."

The governor advised the population to strengthen their protection measures with the compulsory use of masks, hand washing and physical distancing.

According to the Puerto Rico Department of Health, as of October 15 there were 28,174 accumulated cases of covid-19 and 28,238 accumulated probable cases.

The number of deceased persons is 758.
