New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Arden is on her way to a resounding victory and another term, according to preliminary results of the country's election today (Saturday).
The apparent victory comes after a campaign that highlighted its successful conduct in the Corona crisis.
The 40-year-old Arden, who leads the Labor Party, and Judith Collins, 61, the leader of the National Party, ran against each other in the election to form the state's 53rd parliament, ending three years as the current prime minister.
According to the Election Commission, so far 20% of the ballots have been counted, with 50.4% of the votes belonging to Labor and 25.8% to the National Party.
Between the Labor partnership and the coalition, the nationalist New Zealand Party in First Place received 2.3% of the vote and the Green Party voted 8.3%.
Labor led by a large margin in opinion polls before Election Day.

The surveys initially had suggested Ardern was on track to be able to form a Labor-only government, the first outright majority government since New Zealand adopted a proportional voting system in 1996. But more recent polls have indicated she may need the continued support of the minor Greens.
A Labor-Green coalition would be the first fully left-leaning government in decades, a scenario that National's Collins warned would mean more taxes and an environment hostile to business.
