The state government surprisingly revised the regulation on the corona rules on Sunday.

Workplace masks are now mandatory for many people.

And there is also an unpleasant surprise for the catering industry.

The planned tightening of the corona rules in Bavaria are even clearer in details than previously known.

According to the new regulation, which was published on Sunday on the Internet6, it is made clear that the mask requirement also applies in many offices.

This will explicitly take effect from Monday, October 19, in all elevators, hallways and canteens.

In addition, at the workplace, if a distance of 1.5 meters cannot be maintained there “reliably”.

This applies in municipalities with an increased seven-day incidence from 35, i.e. currently in half of Bavaria and of course in the state capital Munich.

So if two employees sit closer than 1.50 meters across from each other in the office, a mask is required - many Bavarians were probably not even aware of this.

Strict gastro rule: curfew, not ban on serving

After the confusion at the weekend, the regulation on the ban on serving from 10/23 p.m. was also tightened.

The regulation now explicitly speaks of a “curfew”, so guests then have to leave the bars - it's not just about a “last round”.

In Munich, where the stricter curfew due to the incidence of over 50, was still handled differently, especially on Saturday, they say - sometimes there was another beer at 9:59 p.m., sometimes the guests were complimented at this time.

Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) emphasized several times over the weekend that the police would consistently monitor the use of masks in public spaces.

In Munich the officials intervened against several celebrations.

The disputes over rules are meanwhile, in the opinion of the police unions, more and more aggressive.

"There is still a high level of acceptance for the Corona rules, but we are also noticing that the mood is starting to become more aggressive - for example when we as the police want to enforce the measures," said the vice-head of the police union (GdP), Jörg Radek.

“It starts with insults, then there is bullying, spitting, and coughing.” In Germany, the number of new infections continues to rise.

Merkel asks: hold on and refrain!

Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) urged citizens in a video message to limit their contacts and to refrain from traveling.

"Meet with significantly fewer people, whether outside or at home," said Merkel.

"Refrain from any trip that is not really necessary, any celebration that is not really necessary."
