A new pilot for the transport of equipment and medical tests by autonomous skimmers was inaugurated today (Sunday) at Ziv Medical Center in Safed.

The project will try to test whether the transfer of Corona tests as needed will be done in a shorter time using the skimmers developed by "Simplex", whose main innovation is flying without the need for eye contact and control of a pilot on the ground, without human contact.

In the first phase of the pilot demonstrated this morning at the medical center, the skimmers will fly to destinations up to ten kilometers away and carry a weight of about five kilograms.

They will be activated via GPS, which will guide them to land the shipments at the exact location.

In the second phase, there will also be pilots who will transport blood packages from MDA Haifa, a distance of 60 km that lasts about half an hour, and from Tel Hashomer, 130 km and a flight time of about 70 minutes. As part of the pilot, more than a hundred expeditions Different.

In addition, in the second phase, air transportation of special and expensive drugs from Ashdod to Safed - a distance of 150 km - is expected to be carried out by larger pilots. This will reduce the time required to move from three and a half hours on an empty road to cars for only an hour and a half. One of the life-saving drugs and therefore every minute is important, "said Ziv. The

pilot is carried out as part of the Ministry of Transportation's NAMA project, through Ayalon Highways and in cooperation with the Civil Aviation Authority, Director of Fuel Substitutes and Smart Transportation. The innovation and the hospitals division in the Ministry of Health.

In addition, the possibility of cooperation with the IDF is being considered, during which sorties of medical equipment, medicines and tests will be carried out to the nearby Philo base and the Northern Command.

The director of Ziv Medical Center, Prof. Salman Zarqa, explained that if the project is successful, it can be an ideal and circumventing solution for closing major arteries during periods of mass events, such as merriment in Meron, roadblocks due to snow and wartime.

"This is good news for the north," he said.

Also, according to Prof. Zarka, conveying corona tests using skimmers will expose fewer staff members to unnecessary infections and prevent infections.

He stressed that shipping by air will also answer the IDF, especially in times of war.

"Times of routine and emergency requires a continuous supply of medicines and equipment to hospitals and essential facilities different," said Zarka. "The use of airports, allows Ziv Medical Center prompt delivery and efficient equipment "Especially in emergencies when the roads are congested and congested whether with ordinary vehicles or with tanks and heavy military vehicles on their way to the northern borders," he said.

The director of the medical center expressed hope that the pilot would pave the way for the connection of the periphery to the center.

"Using the aircraft for fast transportation will help the efficiency of the interface between 'Ziv' and the army in times of emergency and war. I am sure this is the way to connect the periphery to the center and provide us with Ziv and the whole north, a significant tool that breaks our capacity at all times."

According to Itamar Ben Meir, CEO of Netivei Ayalon, "This is another stage in the important and innovative project to transport shipments by skimmer for health and commercial needs, which is becoming even more significant these days when the State of Israel is dealing with the corona epidemic.

It is now of great importance to be able to fly shipments quickly and efficiently, and especially to be able to minimize as much human contact as possible in passing tests.

"This is also a significant technological-transportation step in the effort to save lives, since moving tests and drugs using skimmers will reduce the arrival time that is critical in saving lives."
