Herrsching – The WWK Volleys Herrsching celebrated a tailor-made start in the volleyball Bundesliga.

Coach Max Hauser's team won the Helios Grizzlys Giesen on Saturday evening 3-1 (25:21, 25:18, 17:25, 25:21).

The outstanding man on the side of the winner was once again Johannes Tille.

As usual, the 23-year-old captain directed it impressively.

After the match, which lasted exactly 100 minutes, Hauser spoke of a solid team performance and an “important victory at the beginning.

We were a little better in serve and acceptance ”.

Another reason for the first win of the season, according to Hauser, was the familiarity.

Indeed: In the starting line-up there were six players with diagonal attacker Jalen Penrose, the two outside attackers Tim Peter and Jori Mantha, setter Johannes Tille, middle blocker Dorde Ilic and Libero Ferdinand Tille, who had a large share in fifth place last season.

Luuc van der Ent took second position in the middle.

The Dutchman was immediately involved in the game and made a strong debut in the lederhosen dress.

With a total of 14 points and an attack rate of 77 percent, the ex-Eltmann was the most successful point collector at the WWK Volleys.

But also Peter (12), Mantha (11) and Penrose (11) each scored double-digit.

Quite proof of the variable game played by captain Johannes Tille, who had truly earned the golden MVP medal.

Even his powerful serves never really got the grizzly acceptance under control.

In the end, there were five aces on the score sheet, plus two attack and block points.

Penrose, the best server and second best scorer in the league last season, fell short of expectations.

At least the first point of the season was reserved for the American.

Only a few seconds later, Luuc van der Ent was able to celebrate his first point.

As a result, the WWK volleys in front of almost 400 spectators in the Hildesheim Arena always got two or three points ahead of the set.

When the home side were on the trigger in the crucial phase, Hauser brought Jonas Kaminski into the game.

The 24-year-old introduced himself “with four monster serves” and brought the WWK volleys back on track.

After 25 minutes, Mantha finally won the set with a rock-hard ball from the backcourt (25:21).

The second pass was practically a copy of the first, only a little clearer.

The grizzlies, for their part, had problems with acceptance and made many minor mistakes in attack.

The rulers succeeded in almost everything.

With a soulful pull of the arm, Tim Peter put the lid on (25:18).

“We have found good solutions even in difficult situations,” said Hauser, praising his team.

But as so often, there was a break in the game in the third round.

While the grizzlies were voracious, the WWK volleys seemed totally out of place.

The attack rate collapsed to 36 percent.

"We lost concentration in the attack," said Hauser about the clear loss of a set (17:25).

But at least his team showed "a good reaction" and got back into the game.

With a tough diagonal stroke Penrose bagged the first win of the season (25:21).

For Herrsching's newcomer David Wieczorek, however, there was no reunion on the field with his ex-club.

His abdominal muscle injury has not yet been completely healed, said Hauser.

The 24-year-old outside attacker should be ready for action by the next game on October 31 at United Volleys Frankfurt.
