Iran today (Monday) recorded a record number of deaths from the corona virus with 337 deaths, and Belgium warns of a "tsunami" of patients, with the epidemic showing no signs of slowing down around the world and in Europe in particular.

The number of cases worldwide has crossed the 40 million mark, ahead of the start of winter in the northern hemisphere that comes with a renewed outbreak of the virus in various places.

Experts believe that real numbers are higher, due to gaps in tests and missing reports in some countries.

According to Reuters data, based on official reports from the various countries, the pace continues to rise - it took only 32 days to reach 40 million cases out of 30 million, compared to 38 that passed until the previous ten million cases were recorded and 44 days from ten to 20 one million.

The ten million first cases in the world were recorded within three months of the first detection of the virus in Wuhan in early January.

This past weekend saw the highest number of daily diagnoses in the world since the onset of the epidemic, with the 400,000 cases first crossed.

The average daily number of cases last week was 347 thousand, compared to 292 thousand in the first week of October.

The United States, India and Brazil remain the most "red" countries in the world.

More than 47% of all diagnoses in the world are across the Americas.

In the United States 247 patients are diagnosed per ten thousand inhabitants, and in India and Brazil 55 and 248 respectively.

Iran, Corona's most difficult focus in the Middle East, already counts more than 30,000 dead from the virus.

Tehran is already in the third week of various restrictions.

More than 1.1 million people have died from Covid-19 since the onset of the global epidemic, and the global mortality rate is around 2.8%.

The World Health Organization estimates that up to two million people could die from the virus until an effective vaccine is developed.

The number may be higher without concrete steps to stop the epidemic.

150,000 infected in Europe a day

In Europe, 17% of all cases in the world and about 22% of deaths were recorded, with more than 150,000 infected daily on average.

Across the continent, schools are already being closed, surgeries in hospitals are being canceled and medical students are being recruited as the second wave of the epidemic worsens in many countries.

Belgium's health minister Sabine Wandenbrook has warned today that the authorities are close to the situation "that they are no longer in control of what is happening", with the entry into force of new restrictions.

All bars and restaurants will be closed starting today for four weeks.

Residents are only allowed to meet with one person who does not live with them and should work from home as much as possible.

Also, from midnight to 5:00 there will be a curfew and the sale of alcohol will be banned from 20:00.

Belgium

was one of the countries hardest hit in the first wave, and its death toll per 100,000 people is the third highest in the world, just after Peru and San Marino.

Vandenbrook described the situation in the capital Brussels and the south of the country as "the most dangerous in all of Europe".

He told RTL that the government "sends only one message to the public: protect yourself, protect your loved ones, so do not get infected".

In the last seven days, Belgium has recorded an average of 7,876 daily cases, an increase of 79% compared to the previous week.

To date, 2,485 are hospitalized with Covid-19 disease.

Officials warn that if the trend continues, the 2,000 intensive care beds will be full by mid-November.

"The situation is serious," Belgian Prime Minister Alexander de Crois told RTL.

"It's worse than on March 18, when the closure was imposed."

In recent days parts of Britain have been subject to a partial closure, and today

Wales

, one of the four nations that make up the kingdom, announced a closure for two weeks, starting on Friday.

Similar steps have already been taken

in Northern Ireland.

France

imposed a curfew on several cities, and

Poland

opened a field hospital at a stadium in the capital, Warsaw, with the army deployed in check-and-go facilities.

After successfully stopping the virus in March and April, last week the daily number of infected reached nearly ten thousand and more hospitals are set to open in other cities.

The Polish government is urging residents to stay indoors, shortening restaurant hours and ordering universities and middle schools to switch to online learning.

At the same time, the leader of the ruling party, Jaroslav Kaczynski, went into isolation after coming into contact with a patient.

Similar restrictions have been imposed in the

Czech Republic

, the country with the highest rate of infection per 100,000 inhabitants in all of Europe.

The government has said it will wait until next month to see if the steps it has taken are helpful, before considering a national closure.

Yesterday, some 2,000 football fans in Prague, including members of the Ultras organizations, clashed with police in protest of Corona's restrictions.

In Germany

, the government will invest half a billion euros in improving ventilation systems in public institutions to curb the spread of the virus, after the infection rate was on a steady upward trend and peaked last Saturday.

Italy began a series of restrictions yesterday following daily contagion records.

In the United States

, dozens of countries are seeing morbidity rates, after the total number of diagnoses exceeded eight million.

More than 220,000 have already died, in the worst eruption in the world.

President Donald Trump wants to deliver a large package of aid to the economy, which was badly affected by the epidemic, even before the November 3 election.
