A Ukrainian delegation began a second round of talks in Tehran on Monday (October 19) on possible financial compensation from Iran for the crash of a Ukrainian airliner that was shot down in January over the Iranian capital, according to reports. official media.

Ukraine International Airlines flight PS 752 to Kiev crashed shortly after taking off from Tehran on January 8.
The crash resulted in the deaths of passengers and crew, 176 people in total, mostly Iranians and Canadians, many of them binational.
After three days of denial, the Iranian armed forces admitted having shot down the plane by "
mistake
", in the midst of rising tensions between Washington and Iran.
Talks in Tehran are taking place at Iran's foreign ministry and will continue until Wednesday, according to Iran's state-run news agency Irna.
They relate in particular to "
compensation for families and the airline,
" said Iranian foreign spokesperson Saïd Khatibzadeh at a press conference in Tehran.
A first round of discussions took place in Kiev at the end of July.
Ukraine then expressed "
cautious optimism
" in the negotiations.

On the day of the crash, Iran's air defenses were on high alert for fear of a US attack.
Iran expected a response from Washington after attacking a base used by the US military in Iraq, in response to the elimination of General Qassem Soleimani, architect of Iran's regional strategy.
The Iranian Civil Aviation Authority claimed that the misadjustment of an anti-aircraft unit's radar was the main "
human error
" behind the disaster.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kouleba said in July that he hoped to obtain as much financial compensation as possible in order to alleviate "
the pain and mourning
" of the relatives of the victims.
