The Commission on Presidential Debates is meeting Monday afternoon to discuss possible changes to the rules for the final meeting between President Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Joe Biden, two commission members told CNN.

"We are going to consider what changes we will make from the debate on Thursday night," said a member of the committee.

That member added that there is a possibility that no changes will be made.

He stated that the conversation will be about "what changes will be made, if any."

Commission members did not tell CNN on Monday what changes were being considered at the meeting.

After a first chaotic debate in which Trump frequently disobeyed the rules and interrupted Biden, the commission acknowledged the chaos and said it would seek rule changes to "ensure a more orderly discussion."

The commission had said after the first debate that it would announce the changes "shortly".

The meeting, however, comes weeks after the first meeting and a few days before Thursday's debate.

The commission's second presidential debate was canceled after Trump refused to participate in a virtual meeting.

This was a change that was made available due to his positive coronavirus diagnosis.

“The Committee on Presidential Debates sponsors televised debates for the benefit of the American electorate.

Last night's debate made it clear that additional structure must be added to the format of the remaining debates to ensure a more orderly discussion of the issues, ”says a commission statement on September 30.

The commission, at the time, did not specify what changes they would make.

However, his statement at the time stated that he intended to "ensure that additional tools are available to maintain order in the remaining discussions".

The commission will also certify that both Trump and Biden have reached the 15% voting threshold necessary to qualify for the meeting.

Biden has made it clear that he wants the commission to change the rules before the third match.

And he said that the way Trump conducted himself in the first debate was a "national disgrace."

"I just hope there is a way that the debate committee can control our ability to answer questions without interruption," Biden said the day after the first debate.

The Trump campaign has spoken out against any change in the rules.

The campaign's communications director, Tim Murtaugh, told CNN in a statement after the first meeting that the commission "should not complicate the criteria and change the rules in the middle of the game."
