The prosecutor of the Athens Criminal Court on Monday (October 19) requested the conditional release, pending their appeal, of the leader and six cadres of the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party, sentenced to terms of 10 to 13 years of prison closed for "
leading a criminal organization
".

The Court must accept the suspensive effect of the appeal of the condemned
" because "
they have not so far violated (their) parole
," said prosecutor Adamantia Economou.

In total, she asked the three judges of the Court to keep at liberty about fifty convicts of Golden Dawn, on October 7 after five and a half years of trial, with the exception of Yorgos Roupakias, the murderer. an anti-fascist rapper in September 2013, sentenced to life.
The same prosecutor had already requested the acquittal of the Golden Dawn rulers in December.
The final point of this marathon trial, the Criminal Court must decide on Tuesday or Wednesday whether or not the immediate arrest of leader Nikos Michaloliakos and six other neo-Nazi party officials convicted of having led a "
criminal organization
", as well as dozens of other members of Golden Dawn convicted of "
belonging
" to such an organization.

The prosecutor immediately sparked an uproar among civilians, some leftist parties and the anti-fascist movement.
