Shadow Fantasy Theater and how to make and move its puppets, the centerpiece of the event organized by the Child Culture Department at the As-Suwayda Culture Directorate, as part of the celebration of the Arab Child’s Day held by the Ministry of Culture under the title “My heritage, my memory and my identity”

The event hosted by the As-Suwayda Cultural Association aims to introduce children and adolescents through an interactive training workshop about the art of shadow fantasy theater, its history and its components as part of our heritage, which was included in 2018 as a Syrian element in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization “UNESCO” in the list of intangible cultural heritage, as explained by a department official Child culture in the Directorate Tharaa Atta.

The instructor of the workshop, director Nawras Al-Melhem, indicated that the workshop aims over a period of 3 days to introduce children and adolescents to this kind of heritage art and how to manufacture dolls and shadow imagination and move them on the stage, which contributes to adding new skills they have in implementing handicrafts and enhancing the spirit of collaborative work among them, pointing out that About the workshop, a mini-show prepared by children after training them in the manufacture and movement of the two traditional shadow theater characters “Kerkouz and Yawaz” and the introduction of an educational aspect regarding the prevention of Corona virus.

A number of children participating in this event, whose ages ranged from 5 to 15 years, expressed their happiness at getting to know the shadow fantasy theater because they found in it great pleasure that brought joy to their hearts and learned through it how to manufacture these dolls that they were watching on TV, but now they got to know it closely.
