Head of the Cardamom Market Committee in Latakia, Ghassan Khair, confirmed that most of the vegetables and fruits arrive in the governorate's markets from other governorates, and there is no effect of the fires on the price hike.
Khair told a SANA reporter that the damage caused to vegetables in the governorate countryside was on a narrow level, considering these family crops and with limited areas, indicating that the prices of several materials decreased as a result of the arrival of additional quantities from other governorates, especially tomatoes and potatoes, with a decrease in demand.
Khair pointed out that the damage was concentrated as a result of the fires in the olive and citrus crops, indicating that there are large quantities of olive oil needed for the table from the production of other governorates at reasonable prices.
The head of the cardamom market committee explained that the marketing process of the citrus crop is in its beginning and the market reaches a daily rate of 40 to 50 tons, indicating that the governorate continues to support the marketing of citrus in terms of providing mechanisms to transport the material from farmers' lands to the markets of other governorates, while working to secure a tanker to sell diesel for cars.
