The Independent Commission Against Corruption today (19) sued two former insurance agents of AIA, accusing them of submitting false income certificates in order to defraud an insurance company to provide them with a more favorable "handshake fee" with a total value of over 1 million yuan .

Two former insurance agents of AIA were suspected of defrauding about 1 million yuan in "handshake fees."

The defendant was 60-year-old Liu Jie'er, a former regional manager of AIA (International) Co., Ltd., charged with one count of fraud and violating section 16A(1) of the Theft Ordinance.

She appeared in the Eastern Magistracy on Wednesday (21st), pending the transfer of the case to the District Court for defense.

The defendant in another case is Li Deshan, 55 years old, a former insurance agent of AIA. He was charged with one crime of fraud and pleaded in Eastern Magistracy on the same day.

In order to encourage experienced insurance agents to join, AIA will provide them with various salary and benefits including "handshake fee" when recruiting.

The "handshake fee" is calculated based on the income shown on the income statement of the new hire for the past 24 months.

Liu Jieer joined AIA as a regional manager in August 2015, and Li Deshan joined the company as an insurance agent in May 2014.

Both are downline agents of a regional director of AIA.

The ICAC sued two former AIA agents for allegedly defrauding a handshake fee of more than 1 million yuan.

The defendant submitted multiple false admission certificates

In the first case, the charge alleges that Liu Jieer was suspected of submitting multiple false income statement statements to AIA by deception between July 1 and August 20, 2015, with the intent to defraud to induce AIA to pay She offered a more favorable salary and benefits package, which resulted in her gaining benefits or AIA at a disadvantage.

AIA was reportedly induced to pay Liu Jie'er a higher amount of "handshake fee", which involved more than 760,000 yuan.



In the second case, the charge alleges that Li Deshan was suspected of submitting multiple false income statement statements to AIA by deception between March 1 and May 21, 2014, and attempted to defraud to induce AIA. Provide him with a more favorable salary and benefits package, which caused him to gain benefits or AIA was disadvantaged, involving about 260,000 yuan of unqualified "handshake fees".

The ICAC received a corruption complaint earlier and revealed the suspected crime after investigation.

The two defendants have been granted bail by the ICAC pending their hearing on Wednesday.
