FFT elections: a marathon already well underway between Giudicelli and Moretton

The presidential elections of the French Tennis Federation, pitting the outgoing president against his opponent, entered their first phase at the end of September and will end on December 12.

It is a complex election.

Very complex, when you have the ambition to decipher it.

To put it simply: 7,500 club presidents elect for more than a month and a half in October and November, 198 delegates during the General Assemblies of the departmental and league committees (112 delegates from the departmental committees and 86 delegates from the leagues).

It is they who will choose on December 12 the list “Agir et Gagner”, of the outgoing president Bernard Giudicelli or that “Together for another Tennis” of Gilles Moretton, the current president of the League Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Moretton, which aims to become the 14th president of the FFT.

To sum up: On December 12, the 198 delegates, elected in October and November, will vote for a list of 50 people.

The first 18 on the list will make up the Comex (executive committee).

The head of the list will become, for four years, the President of the second Federation in France, the second in terms of licensees (972,007).

The 32 seats of the CST (Higher Tennis Council) are mostly filled (17) on the top list, then proportionally.

A (very) complex vote

And if we (really) want to go into details, here is how these marathon elections unfold.

The official kick-off was given on September 30 in Aveyron and will conclude on November 18 in Paris.

During the first phase in October-November, during the GA of the departmental committees, the club presidents vote twice.

A first vote to elect the steering committee of the department which then votes to appoint the President from within.

The second phase will focus on the choice of club delegates and the departmental committee, responsible for representing them at the Federation GA on December 12.

Tensions between the two candidates

On September 18, on the sidelines of a videoconference to all 7,500 French clubs, Moretton displayed his confidence, while remaining cautious: “We have six major leagues who are with us.

There are committees that rock.

The Paris Committee is now on my side.

There are other departments that have changed.

I can feel people gathering around me.

They come spontaneously because they want to help this sport on a voluntary basis.

We represent 65% of licensees.

Afterwards, the elections are complex and the voting system complicated, so you have to play the game to the end and encourage people to vote. ”

Since then the campaign has hardened even further.

On Facebook, Bernard Giudicelli called on other members of the National Federations to show their support for his campaign.

Gilles Moretton's clan did not like and decided to seize the ethics committee, the ministry and the CNOSF, considering that it was "a request for interference abroad, customary 'influences that go beyond basic ethical rules'.
