Japan says they are in close communication with the UK and the US after the British government accused Russia's military intelligence service (GRU) of carrying out cyberattacks related to the Tokyo Olympics.
The UK accused the GRU of targeting "organizers, logistics services and sponsors" of the games.
The 2020 competition was scheduled to take place in Tokyo in July, but was postponed due to the pandemic.
"I don't think we can ignore malicious cyberattacks that could shake the foundations of democracy."
So said Japan's chief cabinet secretary, Katsunobu Kato, at a regular press conference in Tokyo on Tuesday.

"We would like to work together with related ministries and agencies and other related organizations to strongly promote cybersecurity measures towards the success of the Tokyo Games," Kato added.
The Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee said on Tuesday that they see "cybersecurity as an important factor in organizing the Games.
And that the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee has been taking a series of measures and preparing thoroughly »to combat the problem.
