recruited Roland Boekhout
(57) from Dutch competitor ING
more than a year
ago and appointed him to the board of directors for corporate customers, it was clear to board members and supervisory board members that someone would come with the format to
replace
the already battered CEO
Martin Zielke
(57).
"That was self-evident in view of Boekhout's experience," recalls one of the executive committee.
Boekhout first made the German ING subsidiary into a leading digital bank and expanded the corporate customer business.
After returning to the parent company, he worked on the integration of the Dutch and Belgian units in order to make ING more efficient.
When Zielke actually dropped out at the beginning of July, it came too early for the Dutchman.
In Frankfurt he has so far lacked the time and opportunity to distinguish himself - also because of the corona pandemic.
In addition, he was unlucky that with Zielke, senior controller
Stefan Schmittmann
(63) fled.
Now insiders fear that another job will soon have to be filled: Boekhout's.
