"A culture of peace is an integral part of human rights, respect for diversity, and fairer societies," UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told New York's Senior Forum on Culture of Peace last year.

This quote summarizes the guiding principles regarding Bahrain's vision for peaceful coexistence, and the reasons that led to the breakthrough with the State of Israel on October 18, 2020.

Social cohesion through coexistence in peace is a cornerstone of the vision of this new era of friendship and peace between us.

For decades, His Majesty King Hamad bin Issa al-Khalifa has personally supported policies of interfaith dialogue, peaceful coexistence, and dialogue with other interfaith groups around the world.

Bahrain is the only Gulf Arab state with a Jewish community (small but vibrant) that plays an integral role in the social, economic and political scene of the kingdom.

My Jewish community has enjoyed for decades a climate of religious freedom in Bahrain, where different religions and communities have lived in coexistence for centuries, and in the kingdom you can find a synagogue just a few meters from a Hindu temple, church or mosque.

The Israeli-American delegation saw this for themselves during a visit to the synagogue earlier this week.

Bahrain is committed to spreading a culture of peace, dialogue and coexistence in its internal and international conduct.

This week, my country and Israel have taken the first - but huge - step towards building a friendly, peaceful and diplomatic relationship between them.

It is important.

As a citizen of this region, it fills me with hope and optimism that I will see the establishment of a new reality for our peoples, rooted in coexistence and prosperity.

Moreover, the changing regional dynamics and demands for a prosperous future of peace, require increased cooperation to advance common interests.

Our dynamic countries have signed several agreements and memoranda of understanding to cooperate in areas that pertain to the core of our thriving economies and to pave a new path of cooperation.

Through these active ties, our young and technologically-talented peoples will be able to reap the rewards in various sectors, including trade, financial services, agriculture and technology.

By investing in building economic resilience, we are stronger together.

Undoubtedly, peace and prosperity are intertwined.

A culture of peace and cooperation in the region is no longer a wish list, but a necessity for a prosperous future for all.

A Middle East that is more diverse, connected and his is our recipe for the future.
