Geretsried

- The approximately three hectare green area between Brahmsweg, Altvaterstrasse and Jeschkenstrasse has been continuously upgraded for ten years now.

Now that a playground has been built, trees have been planted and walking paths have been laid out, the Ernst Pelz Foundation is now presenting a new attraction.

In the center of the forest park, foundation board member Jochen Pelz unveiled a 1.72 meter wooden sculpture on Friday afternoon.

The "Waldpark-Pan" is the journeyman's piece by Geretsried artist Emma Müssig.

The 20-year-old needed three weeks to stylishly process an oak trunk at the Munich vocational school for wood carving.

She was commissioned by Peter Pelz, founder and chairman of the board of trustees.

“The wood was easy to work with when it was damp and due to its drying cracks,” reported Müssig.

Jochen Pelz pointed out the symbolic meaning of the sculpture.

The shepherd god Pan, who appears in Greek mythology and has a human upper body and the lower body of a billy goat, is also considered the patron saint of the forest and nature.

"Today the forest park is more beautiful and diverse than ever," explained Pelz.

Above all, the citizens, who, with a high level of voluntary commitment, remove rubbish, maintain paths and take care of plantings, have contributed to this.

Mayor Michael Müller and his deputy Sonja Frank thanked the many helpers.

"We want to preserve and strengthen the forest park," promised the town hall chief.

In view of the required apartments and the associated new building site, it is important to maintain a balance.

In this context, Sonja Frank recalled the nationwide project “StadtGrün naturnah”, which the city has joined.

For example, it promotes the use of native tree species and flowering meadows in inner-city areas.

The Ernst Pelz Foundation also attaches great importance to these targets.

Those responsible have already set up appropriate information boards at various points within the forest park.

"We would like people to be more attentive to nature and to leave less rubbish behind," emphasized Jochen Pelz PETER HERRMANN
