In tribute to the decapitated professor Samuel Paty, the president of the Occitanie region, Carole Delga, announced that the Charlie Hebdo cartoons would be projected on the hotels in the Toulouse and Montpellier region on Wednesday.

The gesture is symbolic.

While a national tribute will take place in the courtyard of the Sorbonne on Wednesday in memory of Samuel Paty, the Charlie Hebdo caricatures will be projected on the facades of the two regional hotels in Toulouse and Montpellier.

“Occitanie is associated with the homage of the Nation to Samuel Paty.

I decided that tomorrow will be projected on the facades of regional hotels in Toulouse and Montpellier, the cartoons of Charlie Hebdo cartoonists, some of whom were killed in the terrorist attack of 7/01/15 ”,

indicated the president. from the Occitanie region (PS), Carole Delga in a press release.

During the January 2015 attacks, several Charlie Hebdo cartoonists were killed for drawing these cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad.

The satirical newspaper had decided to republish them last September on the occasion of the opening of the trial of the January 2015 attacks. After the assassination of Samuel Paty, beheaded Friday after showing these same cartoons to these students, several calls for broadcast these designs were launched.

For Carole Delga, this is

"a strong act which joins the decision of the Region of France to publish, with national education, a work bringing together the religious and political caricatures of the regional and national press".

An act that has a particular resonance in Toulouse eight years after the attacks perpetrated by Mohammed Merah.

In March 2012, the "scooter killer" had made the people of Toulouse live for several days by killing first a Muslim soldier, Imad Ibn Ziaten, then two other soldiers, Mohamed Legouad and Abel Chennouf, before attacking him. at the Jewish school Ozar Hatorah (since renamed Ohr Torah), in Toulouse.

He then murdered Rabbi Jonathan Sandler then his children Arieh, 5, and Gabriel, 3, as well as Myriam Monsonégo, 8, the daughter of the school principal.

Carole Delga reminded us, with the assassination of Samuel Paty, this is the second time that a school has been targeted:

"Eight years after the attack in Toulouse, a terrorist act strikes. our school for the second time in our country.

If it is a target, it is because it teaches each and everyone the very foundations of citizenship, this desire to form a society despite our differences, this universal value which makes diversity an asset ”.

The Charlie Hebdo cartoons will be screened on hotels in the Toulouse and Montpellier region from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., just before the national tribute to Samuel Paty, scheduled for 9 p.m.

“Beyond this symbolic action, it is my desire to express a message to our fellow citizens: in our Republic, there can be no arrangement with secularism, freedom of expression and freedom of conscience which are at the heart of our republican model

,

"

added Carole Delga, who also specified that the Occitanie region was going to strengthen

" the action it is already carrying out in terms of security, prevention and education, particularly around and in high schools ".

Measures which should be announced

"quickly"

, according to the entourage of the president of the Occitanie region.
