After a hiatus of years, the training and production unit for the manufacture of hand-made carpets in the town of Hina, affiliated to the Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor in Rural Damascus, resumed production and marketing operations.

The person in charge of the unit’s works, Ghaleb Muzher, stressed in a statement to the SANA delegate the importance of preserving the handicraft and heritage works and working to develop and support them as they attract skilled workforce capable of producing high-quality pieces of art such as carpets, rugs and others.

Mezher stated that the difficult conditions and terrorism that struck the region caused the work to stop in the unit, which returned to training and production in limited quantities after the maintenance and rehabilitation works that were conducted to it during the past year.

The unit, which was established in 1989 in the town of Hina and had another branch in the village of Saber, produces (according to Mezher) varieties of carpets (medium, fine and excellent) using wool, cotton and satin threads, and annually about 12 young women graduate who are able to practice the profession in homes in a way that enables them to improve their level. Living.

And he indicated that some of the pieces produced are very beautiful paintings that have their own customers and the price of the piece is determined by a committee that examines them according to their quality and quality, calling for providing the necessary support to the unit and raising the wages of its workers due to the great effort you are making, considering that the exhibitions constitute the most important platforms for marketing this product Distinguished, especially with the presence of his customers in the region and beyond.

Muzhir indicated that he asked the concerned authorities to extend the unit with the necessary threads in different colors, since part of the threads available in it needs to be destroyed because it has lost its quality, and that the used loom dates back to the seventies and needs periodic maintenance, considering that the price of the carpet produced is not commensurate with the effort and economic conditions. Currently.

It should be noted that the Damascus countryside governorate includes more than 14 production and training units spread in Al-Rahiba, Jeroud, Yabroud, Qara, Al Sahl, Knaker and others.
