Ibn Al-Nafees Hospital in Damascus provides free diagnosis and treatment services to about 800 women with breast cancer annually through the Oncology Department, which was opened in 2016, according to the hospital's medical director, Dr. Saad Hammieh.
And during October of each year, which is the International Month of Awareness for Early Detection of Breast Cancer “Pink Month,” the Oncology Department at the hospital intensifies its awareness-raising activities on the importance of conducting investigative examinations to diagnose the tumor in a timely manner and to ensure the effectiveness of treatment and a higher rate of treatment, according to Dr. Hammeya, indicating to the representative of SANA that the medical staff in the department focuses In addition to diagnostic and therapeutic services, psychological support for its effective role in improving the patient's condition.
The number of women with breast cancer who receive treatment annually reaches an average of 800 women who receive various types of treatment, chemical, biological and hormonal, according to Dr. Hammeya, stressing the importance of conducting periodic examination to detect breast cancer once a year after the age of 40 years even in the absence of any symptoms and is advised. Undergoing the examinations at a younger age if there is a risk factor, the most prominent of which is the presence of this type of cancer in a family member.
Dr. Hammeya explained that the diagnosis of breast cancer, like other types of cancer, is done through the general surgery clinic, in addition to the investigations that are conducted through the breast mammogram, echocardiogram, and the axial stratification system. Breast implants are provided with the necessary investigations and treatment according to each case.
