"

We will vote next Monday to confirm Judge Barrett,

" Republican Senator Mitch McConnell said during a press briefing.

"

This will be another major achievement in our effort to appoint men and women to federal courts who believe in the bizarre notion that their job as judges is to follow the law,

" he added.

The 48-year-old conservative magistrate was appointed on September 26 by the Republican president to succeed progressive and feminist icon Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died eight days earlier.

Despite opposition from Democrats who wanted to wait for the verdict of the ballot box, Donald Trump and his Republican allies made a forced march to obtain the approval of the Senate - mandatory under the Constitution - before the November 3 election.

Almost guaranteed to be confirmed

Judge Barrett was heard for three days last week by the Senate Judiciary Committee.

This brilliant lawyer, who came with six of her seven children, recognized that her Catholic faith played an important role in her life, but vowed to keep her at bay in her work as a judge.

Under heavy but courteous fire of questions, however, she refused to reveal her positions on a number of hot topics, starting with the right to abortion.

The judicial committee is due to meet on Thursday for a first procedural vote which will allow debates in plenary to begin the next day.

Several steps will be necessary before moving to the final vote on Monday.

Given the Republican majority in the Senate (53 seats out of 100), and despite the announced defection of two Republican senators, Judge Barrett is almost certain to be confirmed.

She could take the oath in the wake and join the temple of Law on the eve of the election.
