Suspected arson and building falling occurred in Yuen Long.
At about 9 pm on the 20th, it was reported that a man fell from a height in the Lohas Park Building, 88 Education Road, Yuen Long, and fell on the platform of the building.
When the paramedics arrived, it was confirmed that the man was clearly dead.
However, about one minute after the building fell, a fire was found in a unit in the upper building. The fire department sent a breathing apparatus team and a jet to fight the blaze. At the same time, a number of ambulances were dispatched to the scene to guard the fire. About 40 minutes later The fire was put out. No one was injured in the fire. About 50 people evacuated by themselves.
The firefighter then set up the elevator platform and moved the fallen man's body to the ground for investigation.
The police are investigating the incident.
The 71-year-old man, surnamed Chen, lived in a unit on the 10th floor of the Cannes Building. The unit on the site had two rooms.
He and his ex-wife have children, and moved out because of their separate families.
And Chen Weng and the 66-year-old Zeng ex-wife divorced for some reason in 2018. Since the beginning of the ex-wife moved out of the unit, Chen Weng has also lived alone in Shangzhi two years ago.
It is known that before the divorce, someone was involved in a domestic violence case, but was not arrested at that time, only recorded.
It is understood that Chen Weng suffers from a long-term illness and requires regular follow-up consultations.
According to sources, on the 10th of this month, Chen Weng went to the hospital for a follow-up consultation. His ex-wife suspected that he had left the apartment, so she took the opportunity to return to her old residence to collect personal belongings.
However, Chen Weng went home early, and the two met in a narrow road in the elevator lobby of the building, and they scolded each other.
During the period, someone crossed the neck of his ex-wife and was injured. The security guard discovered the incident and reported it. It is known that the two parties had disputes over property and money issues.
The case was classified as "domestic violence." After investigation by the police, Chen Weng was charged with "ordinary assault" and was required to appear in court tomorrow (22nd).
According to sources, investigators found multiple cans of domestic LPG in two rooms of the burning unit, and one of the windows was open.
It was initially suspected that someone moved the LPG tank to the room, set fire to the debris and attempted to detonate, then opened the window grilles and fell to the building.
Fortunately, firefighters rushed to remove the LPG in time, so there was no explosion, but the unit was severely burned.
Initially, it is not ruled out that someone set fire to the house and then jumped off the building.
The police and fire services are investigating the incident.
