The Left has applied for the city of Grafing to take in a refugee family from Moria.
But she says: "No space".
Grafing
- A year ago the city council decided to make Grafing a “safe haven” for refugees as part of the “Seebrücke” campaign.
This should make a contribution "against the isolationist policy of Europe".
This promise to take in refugees from distress at sea is now topical because of the fire in the Greek refugee camp Moria.
The left in the city council therefore felt it was time to translate words into deeds.
With an application to the social welfare committee, they advocated taking in a family from Moria in the city.
That did not meet with unanimous approval.
Mayor: We don't have a vacant apartment
“We have no free apartment,” Mayor Christian Bauer (CSU) informed the committee members after City Councilor Lena Huppertz had explained the left's concerns.
“This is an act of humanity,” she appealed to fellow councilors.
The conditions to help are currently not the best.
Not only does the city currently not have a cheap apartment, but on the contrary: There are currently 40 people on the waiting list in the administration who would also be helped with affordable housing.
"The horse is bridled at the wrong end," said Max Graf von Rechberg (CSU).
You have to have something before you can distribute it, he said, referring to the competence of the federal government.
Ottilie Eberl from the Greens, on the other hand, recalled the moral obligation to help people in need.
“I'm also glad that I can slip into a warm bed in the evening and that my house won't be bombed,” she said.
In Moria, however, the refugees would have to sleep in the "Baatz".
According to Eberl, you could start an appeal to the population as to whether someone could take in a family.
That should now take place in the next issue of the city magazine.
The committee finally agreed on this unanimously.
Contact to Helferkreis could be the solution
Should an apartment for a refugee family actually be found, the city administration wants to inform Joachim Herrmann (CSU), who as minister is not only responsible for internal affairs in Bavaria, but also for integration issues.
Andrea Maier (Greens) suggested contacting the helpers about this, maybe they would know a place.
There was currently no majority for a second part of the left's motion.
It asked to support the pier with a donation of 500 euros.
