Le Domaine de la Corniche, in Rolleboise, the expert opinion of Figaro

2020-10-21T04:40:19.346Z

A chic and charming stopover of well-being and gastronomy one hour from Paris overlooking the Seine, on the road to Normandy.

8/10 for Le Domaine de la Corniche

The manor overlooks the Seine, perched on a chalk cliff with a terraced garden, on the heights of Rolleboise, a village of 400 souls along the river in the Yvelines.

From the Corniche road which leads there, you can only see it with your nose above it, without suspecting the grandiose view it has in store for us over the meanders of the river and the Méricourt dam.

Its name is written in white letters on the gray wall of this four-star hotel, which does not display its ranking but the plaque of the two reference networks to which it is affiliated, Hôtels et Préférence and les Collectionneurs.

Urban legends nourish its history with the scent of sulfur: the King of the Belgians Leopold II would have built it to shelter his loves with his mistress, Blanche de Vaughan, then the place would have been a gallant house.

Today, it is an elegant and warm hotel with 44 rooms spread over 4 buildings, the mansion, two mansions and the spa.

The place also has a starred table (a Michelin macaroon), a cocktail bar, a bistro, "Le 20 du Domaine", 2 yurts and 32 hens.

The owner, Jérôme Crépatte, passionate restaurateur, is stepping up initiatives to entertain and retain customers.

9/10 The situation

78 kilometers from Paris and twelve kilometers from Giverny, you can get there in an hour by car via the A13 from Porte Maillot, or in 33 minutes by train from Saint Lazare station to Mantes-la-Jolie then 10 minutes by taxi.

Opposite the industrious right bank of the Seine, this side is bucolic.

The hotel seems to be in the middle of the countryside, with its chickens in the garden and its small road that cuts the domain in two, and which spa guests do not hesitate to cross in white bathrobes.

7/10 The decor

The old gray metal door automatically opens onto a lobby with a vintage cement mosaic floor from which a light wood staircase starts and opens onto the bar with its black and gold ambiance.

The gourmet restaurant is located on the mezzanine, right next to the cinema and the billiard room.

The contemporary decor is eclectic.

At the “château”, purple, brown, anthracite and wine lees dominate.

The whole smells of old-fashioned elegance.

More daring is the atmosphere imagined in the two mansions, at "la Jeannette", thematic in red and black or black and white around rock and cinema at "la Forestière".

The spa is modernist and its lights dim.

At the bistro "Le 20 du Domaine", you sit under a vintage glass roof in a flea market atmosphere, ready to leave with the tables and chairs left in consignment by a local antique dealer.

The yurts with the typical interior decoration of the Mongolian steppes bring yet another touch to the uniqueness of the place.

    7/10 The bedrooms

Numbering 44 (including 13 standard and 16 superior), they are all spacious and functional.

But their spirit, their decor differ so much from one building to another that one would think you were changing hotel when visiting them.

The manor called "the castle" has 18 comfortable rooms, two of which have a deep terrace overlooking the Seine, n ° 6 and n ° 7.

Inside each: a double bed with a TV screen on the wall, a small desk, a toilet separate from the bathroom and individual welcome products.

    Dominant colors: brown, blue.

The 9 rooms of "La Jeannette" are more contemporary, bathed in a Zen atmosphere with light colors and a refined design.

As for the 6 rooms of "La Forestière", on the garden side, these are thematic.

In red and black for "rock" with vinyl records in the headboard and electric guitar on the wall.

In black and white for "the cinema", with a shooting photo of Delon, Gabin, Ventura and overhead projector.

On the side of the spa: a final row of rooms with a spa spirit, accessible to people with reduced mobility.

    9/10 Services and equipment

In addition to welcoming and smiling staff, the plethora of services is a real plus that makes you want to stay several nights.

Even in the cool season when the outdoor pool is covered.

The Spaquana, a contraction of spa and Spaquana which means Seine in Latin, opens onto a 600 m² space dedicated to well-being with an indoor swimming pool, hammam, sauna and six massage cabins, including three duets with products from the Cinq Mondes.

The other plus is the gourmet table "Le Panoramique", where the bubbling young chef, Gaëtan Perulli, 32, shines the star awarded to the Michelin with a locavore cuisine and without fuss that magnifies the product.

Not to mention the food and wine pairings suggested by the sommelier.

    This restaurant is exceptionally closed due to a curfew;

during this time, the room hosts the bistronomic cuisine of the "20 du Domaine".

It is also here that breakfast is served with salted meats from a nearby charcutier, pastries from the village pastry shop La Ruche, which belongs to the same owner, and eggs from the garden chickens.

In front of “Le Panoramique” is a pocket cinema: 35 red velvet armchairs and folding seats which show great classics à la carte.

It adjoins the mauve carpet billiard room.

In the garden, behind the spa, two yurts have just been installed.

One has six beds in a decor typical of the Mongolian steppes.

The other is to entertain the children with an animator.

Both are a free service for parents staying at the hotel.

One more family experience, with the “moi et minimoi” package which allows you to share a massage with your child.

    9/10 The value for money

    It is an atypical four-star.

A chic and unusual country stop where each member of the family finds his pleasure on the road to Normandy.

From € 105 per night for two in a standard room and € 195 in a superior room, with breakfast at € 15 per guest.

"Me and mini-me" package from € 59 for an adult and a child up to 12 years old, from Monday to Friday, with 2 accesses to the spa and lunch at "20 du Domaine".

Domaine de la Corniche, 5 route de la Corniche, 78270 Rolleboise.
