Geretsried - When hand drums, chime bars and tonally coordinated plastic tubes, so-called boom whackers, are scattered around the gym, there is no stopping them.

The girls and boys of the Champini kindergarten rush to it and start a wild knocking concert.

"Instruments are like magnets, sound is magical for the children," says Sabrina Schwenger, commercial director of the music school.

Since September, the kindergarten children on Jeschkenstrasse have been able to make music once a week with Stela Trambeva, teacher for early musical education, and the teacher of the respective kindergarten group.

Behind this is a project for which the music school and kindergarten are cooperating.

It is initially financed by donations.

Representatives of the Rotary Club Wolfratshausen Isartal recently presented 3,400 euros, and the Lionsclub München-Isartal gave 1,000 euros.

"We look forward to a little more," says Schwenger and hopes to secure the funding until the end of the kindergarten year.

In the long term, the music school director hopes to establish the project permanently and to expand it to other kindergartens in Geretsried.

So far, the music school has offered courses in various Geretsried kindergartens, for which parents could register their offspring if they were interested.

But that had several disadvantages.

Parents paid twice - for care in kindergarten and for the music course.

"We were only allowed to do this in the afternoons during off-peak hours," says Schwenger of the resulting requirement from the district office.

In the mornings, however, the children are more concentrated, adds Sabine Beyer, musical and educational director of the music school.

In addition, not all children could benefit from the courses.

Due to the regulations to contain the corona pandemic, the courses have not been allowed to take place for a few months anyway, as children from different groups would come together there.

For this reason, Schwenger pulled an idea out of the drawer for the new kindergarten year that she has been pregnant with for a long time: to integrate early musical education into the concept of a kindergarten and thus give all children access to music.

We are a movement kindergarten and movement and music cannot be separated

The head of the facility, Hülya Aktas, was immediately enthusiastic.

“We are a movement kindergarten, and movement and music cannot be separated,” she says.

However, the financing of the project gave Aktas a stomachache.

“A day care center doesn't have a lot of money, and we can't ask the parents to pay extra.” The Rotarians and Lions Club took this worry away for the time being.

Stela Trambeva now teaches one morning every week in the Champini kindergarten.

Each group comes into the gym for 30 minutes, carefully ventilated in between.

There is always an educator with them.

Firstly because of the discipline, says Beyer.

On the other hand, what you have learned can be taken with you into everyday kindergarten life or topics of the group can be implemented in the classroom.

“It should be togetherness,” explains Schwenger.

There is a lot of movement involved in early musical education.

"The children should feel the music in their bodies," says Beyer.

Songs are sung, rhythms are tapped, stories are set to music, and there is also dancing.

"Consideration for one another is also encouraged, I have to be quiet when the other is playing a solo", says the musical-pedagogical music school director.

Basically, the children should have fun.

“You should have a great experience,” says Beyer.

If you want to learn an instrument afterwards, be nice.

In any case, you would be in a good starting position.

In the Music School Association there is a requirement that children should have had two years of early education if they take part in lessons.

Beyer: "The feeling for high, low, loud and quiet is then already in the body."
