The Madrid debacle began in the 29th minute, when Brazilian TetĂȘ advanced the visit with a left foot that left Thibaut Courtois without reaction.
The merengue ordeal became even more uphill 4 minutes later, with a goal against Raphael Varane.
And as if that were not enough, the Israeli Manor Solomon placed the 3-0 just before the end of the first half, to sentence a fateful 13 minutes for the 13-time Champions Champions.
Real Madrid entered determined to reverse the adverse result at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium.
The halftime seemed to be an incentive for the locals, who managed to discount at 9 minutes of the complement thanks to a goal from Luka Modric.
Five minutes later, Brazilian VinĂcius JĂșnior scored the second merengue goal, and the comeback seemed imminent.
But the merengue impulse ran into an ultra-defensive and hermetic strategy on the part of Shakhtar Donetsk.
Uruguayan Federico Valverde scored in injury time, but the goal was invalidated by video refereeing.
The fall of Real Madrid occurs just before the Classic that has to face this Saturday against FC Barcelona.
