Storm Barbara: 76,000 homes were deprived of electricity in the South West

This Wednesday morning, it is estimated that around 35,000 homes are still without power.

More precisely, 19,000 in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, 3,000 in Béarn and Haute-Garonne, 1,500 in the Landes, but also nearly 7,000 in Limousin.

Nearly 76,000 homes have been affected in total in these territories, according to Enedis.

“More than 700 Enedis technicians and 200 employees of service companies are mobilized in areas affected by bad weather to restore the electricity network as quickly as possible,” said the distributor in a situation report made at 8:30 am.

End of orange alert

Twelve departments in the southwest had been placed in orange vigilance.

An alert raised around 10 a.m.

According to Météo France, the windy episode is almost over.

Last night, in the mountain range, gusts reached more than 200 kilometers per hour: 216 km / h at Iraty and 194 km / h at the Pic du Midi.

In the plains, the speed rose to more than 100 km / h, especially at Pay.

The coast of the Basque Country was not spared by the strong winds, which notably reached 132 km / h in Socoa.
