Now it is certain: The speed on the mountain road in Hohenpeißenberg will be limited.

But this decision is not only a joy.

Tempo 60 only applies to about 700 meters of the 2.5 meter long route.

For some, that doesn't go far enough.

  • The complaints about speeders on the mountain road have been going on for years

  • Now the speed should be limited to 60 km / h

  • But only on a section

The Hohenpeißenberg mayor Thomas Dorsch announced the news at the end of the latest municipal council meeting: “A speed limit will be ordered for Bergstrasse.

However, not as initially planned. ”The responsible road traffic authority at the district office ordered a speed limit of 60 for the mountain road - but only for the 700 meters behind the place name sign to the first bend.

In this area, the speed is to be limited to 60 kilometers per hour for everyone who wants to go up the mountain and for those who drive down towards the village.

Originally there was talk of putting a longer stretch of road or even the entire mountain road with a speed limit, said Dorsch in the local council.

The district office had recently arranged for a speed limit for this section of the mountain road.

As a mountain route and excursion destination on the Hohen Peißenberg, the WM 22 is a popular road that attracts road users far beyond the district boundaries, according to the reasoning behind the decision.

Motorcycles and high-powered cars, in particular, often race up and down the road too quickly.

Even cyclists, for whom the Hohe Peißenberg is a popular tour destination, often attracted attention due to the inadequate speed, according to the decision of the district office.

"The authorities involved unanimously see a risk situation that considerably exceeds the general risk of impairment of the legal interests mentioned in Section 45 of the StVO", according to the order.

The speed limit applies as soon as the state building authority puts up the relevant signs.

This decision was made after several speed measurements had been taken on Bergstrasse.

It turned out that the average road user is on the mountain road at 70 km / h, reported Dorsch in the municipal council meeting, with motorcyclists leading up and down the mountain at an average of 80 km / h.

"But there were also outliers that were up to 150 km / h," said the mayor.

Even if the entire road on the Hohen Peißenberg has not been set to a speed limit, "this is a first step and we had to fight it through," said Dorsch.

"In my opinion, this is a lazy compromise," said councilor Hermann Summer (Aufwind).

In his opinion, a speed limit "at least as far as the tower" would have been necessary.

"I'm not happy, that's a mess," said Summer.

"We would have liked more," admitted Dorsch.

He asked the police to check whether the speed limit was being adhered to and to generally make sure that "the speeding scene is not spreading".

The speed limit that is now being imposed was the compromise that could be achieved.

"We'll stay tuned," promised Dorsch.

Werner Hoyer, the chairman of the regional traffic watch in Schongau, sees Tempo 60 on a section of the Bergstrasse as a success: "We are very happy that we managed to do this together," he said and also asked to check whether the road users were getting away also stick to it.

At the endeavor of the Schongau regional traffic watch, there was a "round table" on the speed limit on Bergstrasse, in which representatives of the Hohenpeißenberg community, the police, the district office and the regional traffic watch took part.

This “round table” had met when it was reported in this newspaper in the summer that the community of Hohenpeißenberg wanted to make another attempt to limit the speed on the mountain road.

After there had been repeated complaints about speeders on the Bergstrasse in Hohenpeißenberg, the local council expressed the desire to dare to push again towards the speed limit in the summer.

A few years earlier, the attempt to reach a speed limit on the mountain road had failed.

A speed limit was lifted in spring 2012.

The reasoning at the time was that no one adhered to the speed limit anyway.

Instead, the reason was appealed to the road users.
